Aunt Beth’s 40th Birthday Day

Beth turned 40 on September 6, 2020. During this COVID-19 pandemic a party was out of the question and so was a celebratory vacation. We asked what she wanted for gifts and how she’d like to spend the day.

And we did it. A day trip to the North Shore of Boston, Gloucester mostly and a drive thru Rockport. Since it was actually her birthday day we made sure to bring candles and sing whenever we ate. And lots of pictures to document this momentous occasion.

Group selfie before we left our driveway. Ally sits in the front because she gets car sick in our car unless she is in the front. Doesn’t happen in all cars, just this one.

First stop Hammond castle.

Next stop was Gloucester

We parked and walked along the harbor because the drawbridge was up and walking 1/4 mile to our destination was faster than driving.

It’s the Fisherman Monument. Erected to honor all the men who’ve died while working in the fishing industry at sea. Beth is mimicking the pose of the statue.

Lots of names.

Then Becky and I posed at the wives Memorial.

Next stop was lunch. At the Lobsta Land restaurant. I’m not kidding that was the name and spelling. Ally had some chicken fingers.

Beth and I had fish and chips.

And it was serenade #1 of Happy Birthday.

Becky devoured her lobster roll.

After lunch we drove to the Eastern Point Lighthouse.

Ally on the beach

Beth and the lighthouse.

The water was so clear.

You can see the bottom.

Ally was a trooper climbing over rocks and some terrain to get out on the jetty. Her ankle was hurting so she and I didn’t walk very far.

Picture time in the glorious weather.

After the lighthouse we left Gloucester and drove north to Rockport. Cute town but way too many people for us to feel comfortable. Instead we went to the Train Stop ice cream shop on our way back home.

Ally ate every bit of this giant ice cream come. Mint chip of course. It did take her 30 minutes to eat it all.

They were huge small size cones

Ally of course stayed in the car while we got the cones from the counter. She was a good sport all day and would listen to music on her AirPods while in the car.

She told us when we got back and in the car that while she was waiting for us a man came and got in the back seat of the car. He was in the wrong car!!! Ally said she just looked at him. We laughed. The death stare from a 13 year old girl brings new meaning to the phrase “looks can kill”. The funniest part is there were only 2 cars in the parking lot. Us and his car and he got his ice cream right before us. So funny.

Serenade #2 Happy Birthday Beth.

Becky had some issues during singing:
Her ice cream was melting.
She had to hold mine so I could light the candle in Beth’s cone
Becky forgot to take off her mask so she was stuck masked and double fisted with ice cream. This was after I took off the mask for her.

After ice cream we headed home.

Where it was time to open gifts!

And 1 final birthday picture!

We love you Beth and hope the next 40 years are filled with fun and love.
