Organizing and Sorting

IMG_1491

After her bath on Sunday morning Ally and I decided to organize her book case. Of course accomplishing the task with a 6 year old can be a challenge.  Ally always has very definite ideas on how to do things like this. Ideas that don’t always make any sense to Becky and I. We took all the books out and piled them up in no order.

Then we gradually put the books back in by sorting them into categories. Ally came up with most of them:

Disney Books

Chapter Books

Family Books (books about families, some have an adoption theme)

Spanish Books

Books that I can read (that Ally can read right now)

Story Books (this was a catchall for books we felt did not really fit anyplace else like Drummerhoff, Caps for Sale, Alexander and the no good…. etc.)

Animals (animal themes or animals as main characters like Giraffes Can’t Dance, Boo Hoo Bird, Stellaluna, etc.)

Girls (girls or female lead characters, Paperbag Princess, Pinkalicious, Olivia books etc.)

Books with CD (no label for this category)

Non Fiction (Becky explained what this meant  and Ally actually has a wide collection of these, budding scientist that she is such as, Insect Detective, Tarra & Bella, Two make Tango, Stone Girl Bone Girl (about the first female archeologist)  etc.)

Ally with her finished neat and organized book case.

It was her idea for labels and she wrote them all by herself.

Aminols is Becky’ favorite, because that is still how Ally says that word most of the time. I think it will crush Becky when Ally actually gets and remembers the correct pronunciation.

It was a fun project. We put all of Ally’s photo books and albums in the wall shelf over her bed.
