Gingerbread House 2012

IMG_9282
We had Ally’s friend Willow over about a week ago to decorate gingerbread houses. The girls lost steam pretty quickly – in part because the grown ups were chatting away and not helping with the work at all. The girls as usual had a blast just being together.

Then this week when Ally was home sick I suggested we work on it some more. She was thrilled.

Hamming it up for the camera. We had fun putting lights on all four sides, finishing the roof and Ally created flower pots on one side and chose to do the candy fence around the perimeter.

True love is sometimes torture

like when you let your 6 year old paint your toe nails.

She was home sick. I did her toes first, perfectly I might say, and then she asked so eagerly and nicely to paint mine. So I caved. It was hard – I am very particular about nail polish. But I did it. And she had fun. But I can’t promise I won’t re-do it sometime soon.

RIP Spotted

Today Ally’s beloved fish Spotted died. Well to be honest he may have passed yesterday or sometime during the night but I discovered him this morning. Ally is sick, home from school and I was home with her when I found him.

Ally cried and cried and asked if we could get another fish. I of course said yes – she asked to go today to get “another Spotted” back to the same store we got him from. As with our cat who died this summer she wanted to know what would happen to Spotted. I explained that usually you flush the fish down the toilet. She cried even harder at that. So I said we could bury him in the yard underneath the memorial rock for our cat Bryce. She thought that was a good idea and watched as I scooped his dead body out of the bowl and into a Ziploc bag. I double bagged and she asked why. Then proceeded to say she wanted to make a card for him. It calmed her down to do something so she made the card pictured below all by herself and then put the card in the outer bag.

Currently the dead fish and the card are sealed in Ziplocs on top of our microwave oven in the kitchen. Its cold and rainy today – not a good day for grave digging. Same forecast for tomorrow. Hopefully it will warm up and dry off before we leave for Disney World so I can bury him.

What a day a morning or day of mourning.

I’ll always be with you Spotted

I love you

And yes she made a pop up within the card.

Oh my heart hurt for her. We had him for 18 months. Here is the post about getting him http://www.thelifeofally.blogspot.com/2011/07/new-addition-to-our-family.html

We did go pick a new fish out today – it’s a bigger one that looks very much like her old one. And yes she is calling him Spotted.

Light Show

IMG_9326

Yesterday we joined some neighborhood friends for the annual light display in a neighboring town. We ride on trolleys thru the town looking at spectacular displays of Christmas lights.

Ally got her Christmas present from Uncle Frank and his fiancĂ©e Sindy. It is a stuffed puppy dog named Belle who responds to certain voice commands. Ally feel instantly in love and insisted on sleeping with Belle and now we have yet another “special thing”.

A friend of ours owns a children’s boutique and I took a couple of pictures of Ally wearing one of the outfits!

Enjoying time at home

IMG_9267

We got some classic Disney movies from Netflix so Ally can get to know more characters before our trip to Disney World. Becky and Ally watched Peter Pan recently. It was a hit!

Sunday afternoon Ally played by herself for hours, while Becky napped (she has a cold) and I did work on the computer. Ally worked hard on her “collection container”. It’s the egg crate. I thought she looked so adorable doing it with Kitty in her arms.

Becky put Ally to work on our Holiday cards. They were labeling and stuffing!
