Dinner Play Date

 

Alice and her parents came over for dinner this past weekend. The girls and I made rice krispie treats for dinner. We could not believe Alice had never made them before! We ate a fairly typical menu of “breakfast for dinner” and then after dessert the girls put on a show for us. They could not decide on a dance song so they ended up doing a gymnastics show.

They pulled all these chairs in for the audience and told us where to sit. Tom was there too – but he was finishing his dessert and Alice had decreed no food at this show! So he took the picture of us three moms.

Once the show started the girls got right to the tricks. Ally showed off her back walk over and hand stand skills. Alice was fearless in cartwheels, round offs and generally anything else fun!

After some floor tricks we got out the beam and that was a hit too.

After about 30 minutes the very tired girls sat on the couch to watch an episode of the Muppet Show and eat Fruity Cheerios.

Fun evening.

Friday After-School Fun

Life here has been busy and we’re feeling quite a bit of trepidation about health news – some has been good some not so good and we’ve had a big change with the return of Ally’s beloved babysitter Lauren. Change even when good can still be difficult.

Friday was a very cold day, and after school Ally asked if we could go to the paint your own pottery place. I thought it was a great idea! So we went home and waited for Becky and then the 3 of us headed out for some family fun and then dinner at the mall.

Becky and I painted new light switch plates for Ally’s room.

Ally painted a cat rainbow colors and  then a penguin. The penguin she won in Sea World has become a favorite lovey for her and I think she wanted to make a friend for it. The Fashionista pictures were taken after dinner at Ally’s favorite pizza place.

Then later that night before bed I found Becky and Ally (and Nali) all on Ally’s bed playing  video games on my phone!

It was a fun evening and gave us all some really nice family time.

Fashionista

Ally wanted to go try on dresses tonight – which she only wants to do once in a long while.  She was reading the tags and picking out the dresses she wanted, and then carried her collection of dresses around the store.  She got quite a look from the clerk at Bab.y G.ap, who probably had never seen someone in there shopping for their own clothes.

Ally went to the dressing room to try some clothes on.  She was enamored with the large mirror in the dressing room, and kept “making poses” and watching herself.  She then requested that I take photos of her.  She loved it.  Here are the results.  She had a blast!

Dress #2:

Busy Saturday

Saturday started with gymnastics, but since I sit on the other side of the glass its hard to take pictures. Ally had to make up a class from when she was sick before Christmas. She was nervous about going at a different time – but she knows 2 of the girls from her summer class and did great! Her coach came out after class and said Ally has a new nickname “Muscles” because she can do chin-ups (and pull ups) better than anyone else – her coach was impressed with how fast and easy Ally does them – and with a smile and laugh.

After gymnastics we drove across town to the ice rink.

Ally had not been skating in 3 weeks because of travel and Guat Girls, but she was excited to go and got right out on the ice, found a coach and group her level and did great!  She learned how to bend your knees like you are sitting in a chair to glide and how spreading your feet apart in and out can help you move.

Ally also liked trying to catch the coach and grab the towel out of his back pocket.

 

Ally’s babysitter Sarah came over for the afternoon. They made a list of all the things they might do it was called:

Idea Spot

Play with my Legos

Make cupcakes or cookies

Play Hide and Go seek

Make Valentines

Have a Gymnastics Show

We might have a pillow fight

We might play will baby and Dolly

We could paint our nails

We could build a fort

We could play with the cats

They actually did most of the stuff on the list!

We did some shopping for Ally while we were out – she got a new sweatshirts – and she is modeling it above with my sunglasses on.

And at the Lego store we found a Lego 3-drawer organizer! We had to buy it – such a nice way to keep the Legos sorted and put away. Becky and Ally immediately started working with it. They were back it again first thing this morning.

It was a busy but fun day.

More homework

Homework from this week is above. I was so proud of Ally for writing it in Spanish too – nadar is Spanish for swimming.  The assignment was to draw (and write) something amazing about water  I think the idea was something from the book they read at school. Once again Ally did this all on her own.

The picture is Ally and me in the water, and Becky holding a kite on the beach. Those are our 3 beach chairs and umbrellas in the sand next to Becky. I love how Ally tries to actually distinguish each of us – my reddish brown big hair, Ally’s straight black hair, mama’s short blonde hair and blue eyes.

 

Some progress as well on her resolution to read better – Ally has been bringing books home from school and reading to Becky at night before bed. (Thanks Debbie for the cute pajamas Ally is wearing.)
