On top of the skin issues, Ally has been having some stomach aches. So last week we saw a pediatric gastroenterologist. Very nice, possibly the most amazing doctor’s visit Becky and I had ever been to. And he has some really interesting ideas as to what might be affecting Ally’s stomach. We have some diet changes to try and go back and see him in a few weeks.
That is not the grumpy news.
Grumpy is that two weeks ago Ally injured her foot at gymnastics. She does not know what she did or how she hurt it. Just that it hurts to walk on it or put weight on it. So she walks around limping. After a week we went to the pediatrician for an X-ray. The x-ray was a bit inconclusive so we had a follow up with a pediatric orthopedist. The orthopedist can’t find anything really wrong – x-ray looks good to him, Ally has full range of motion, but since it hurts to walk he put her in a walking cast (AKA a boot) for 2 weeks, we go back April 9 for a follow up.
No gymnastics, no ballet, no gym class etc. for 2 weeks.
We are all happy Ally can now walk without pain. It’s a very cute boot – she is modeling it above in her pajamas.
We did have a visit to another dermatologist this week. Another pediatric specialist, this one works at Children’s hospital, and she thinks Ally has what is called an ID reaction – which is a skin rash (reaction) to something else in her body. The rash won’t go away until we eliminate the primary cause. The good news is that Ally can stop using her steroid creams that weren’t really working, bad news is that now we need to find the cause. The dermatologist put Ally on a course of antibiotics, we are all hoping that maybe Ally has a touch of something, and the antibiotics will kill it and the rash will go away.
And if that wasn’t enough doctor appointments, we also had a visit to the allergist yesterday for allergy tests. We are thrilled to report that Ally is NOT allergic to cats or dogs, and passed the surface skin tests for most major foods. She could still have an insensitivity to something like gluten or dairy but overall this was VERY good news. Turns out Ally is allergic to Oak. So in the spring time she will probably need to take an OTC antihistamine.
Ally has been a really good sport with all of these appointments. But we are really looking forward to Easter this weekend, and are thrilled that it is starting to feel like Spring!
