After we left the market we drove to Concepción to visit a 400 year old Catholic Church. It is one of the oldest churches in Guatemala, since so many have been destroyed by earthquakes and volcanos.
They are having a festival this weekend so there were children practicing dance and marching band.
Views on the drive thru and over the mountain.
We were up high and that is looking down into a valley 2000 feet below.
The church was very rustic and beautiful.
Ally took the picture above of the dome ceiling over the altar.
A chicken joined us in church today!
Ally did a handstand outside.
Lee trying to get Ally to speak and read Spanish. She is so shy sometimes. But we did try a new kind of cookie/bread called a toscada it tasted like a Stella Dora breadstick to me, softer than a biscotti but not soft, more hard but sweet. Ally really liked them and ate a few.
Ally and I shared lunch of chicken fingers and fries. The orange soda is Ally's.
After lunch we stopped at the main square in Solola. Ally was too self conscious to do a handstand in the park but we convinced her to do a scorpion.
Looking down at the town of Panajachel from high above.
We saw another Mayan altar.
Beth ventured out on to Eagle Rock viewpoint.
Happy girl. She was pretty subdued for most of the day. It was a lot to take in. But we did get some of her beautiful smiles.
Aunt and niece overlooking Lake Atitlan.
There are dogs everywhere! Ally was thrilled to see puppies today and she took this picture of one.
This is a school mainly for ex-pats. Lee, our guide said that if we moved to Guatemala this is the kind of school Ally would go to. She was excited to see it, and said it was colorful.
That is Ally swimming under the volleyball net in the pool. She and Beth headed down quickly after we got back to our hotel. Then Becky joined them and when I arrived at the pool after posting part 1 of this day I found them all like this:
We decided to order room service and stay here at the hotel for dinner. No place will have a view like our room. We are tired and ready for a relaxing evening and early bedtime.
