The Wedding

This weekend we attended a wedding of one of my dear friends from High School. He was getting married to his long time partner, and the wedding was at a swanky resort on Cape Cod. It was a "kid friendly" wedding so we brought Ally with us and made a weekend of it. Ally was excited to wear a fancy dress and get dressed up, and have us dress up too, since we never get dressed up, well at least I hardly ever, and Ally was really excited to see mama wearing high heeled shoes!

I told Ally a few days before the wedding that there were only grooms, no brides in this wedding, and we talked about how there were all different kinds of families and weddings and such. She was fine with it, and continued to be excited about the whole event.

Ally and Becky took a swim in the pool before the wedding.

All dressed up and waiting in the receiving line after the wedding and before the reception.

Ally was so well behaved. Lots of people commented on it. We would say thank-you and explain that this is her 3rd wedding in 3 years! We brought headphones and she watched some Olivia on my iphone during the reception for a while, and she ate the peanut butter and jelly sandwich we brought with her instead of the kids' chicken finger meal. But she played in the game room for a while and she loved the dancing. loved it.

She has even asked if we could have a dance floor at the Halloween party we're hosting in a few weeks.

Becky and Ally as we waited for our car from the valet. It was a beautiful day and evening. When we left the venue to walk out to our car Ally was so excited to see the stars and the moon. They were so bright we had shadows. And of course Ally had to try and step on mama's shadow. When she succeeded she asked if it hurt. Becky and I were confused at first until we realized Ally meant "does it hurt you when I step on your shadow?" What a sweet sentiment. We explained no it does not, but we were both pretty tickled at the idea.

The next day we went to the beach for a couple of hours before we headed home.

It was a relaxing, enjoyable time.

When I picked Ally up at school on Monday I saw she only ate one bite of her lunch, and I asked why. She told me she was "chatting with Willow" during lunch. I ask about what and she said "the wedding".

How cute - and how grown up to be having conversations with friends about what she did over the weekend.
