On Saturday we decided to go apple picking. It was forecasted to be a hot day - but Becky and I thought why not? Its September now and we could cross apple picking off the list of Fall things to do even before Fall arrives. Ummmm 85 degree heat is not Fall and apple picking turned into fruit picking, because the orchard also had raspberries and blueberries available for pick your own!
But right now Ally is super afraid of "stinging bees" as she calls them. And as it turns out there were a lot of bees in the raspberry patch. So I picked with Ally on my shoulders. Ally discovered that she likes to eat raspberries - she even asked if "we could buy some at Whole Foods, when these are all gone"
After raspberry picking we checked out the animals, Becky and Ally are in front of the chicken coop.
It was a very long walk to the blueberry patch. And the bushes were very tall - too high for Ally to reach. So Becky picked for a while with Ally on her shoulders. By now it was almost noon, we were all fading from the heat and we still had not picked any apples. After some discussion we agreed to go eat our picnic lunch in the shade, take a bathroom break and then pick our apples.
It was so hot and sunny, and Becky and I so tired from carrying Ally while we berry picked that I pushed Ally in her stroller through the apple orchard to pick apples. It was the quickest apple picking ever!
Then we rode the hay ride. Ally was so excited.
When it started moving Ally was a little nervous and reached for Becky's hand and held it the whole ride. So cute.
After the hayride we decided it was time for a snack. Frankly we were too hot for cider-donuts so we got ice cream! But first Ally was fascinated with the honey bees on display in the farm store. I guess when the bees are behind glass she is not so afraid of them.
About 2 minutes after we got in the car Ally fell asleep for the entire 50 minute car ride home, and then slept for another 45 minutes when we got home. I took a 2 hour nap!
But we had fun and came home with lots of yummy fruit.
