Summer vacation week 1

Summer vacation!!! Well for Becky and Ally. I need to get back to work. Here is our week:

Becky’s birthday was Tuesday June 23 but we celebrated early at Beth’s house on Sunday the 21st.

Obligatory photos first.

Becky lounged in the chaise.

Ally opened her very first screw top glass bottle; Peach Izze sparkling juice.

Beth had a nice spread of crudités and a tazihki dip and homemade hummus. We brought chips.

Becky got to open Beth’s gift. It was a cocktail shaker.

We did make Becky grill.

Typical 13 year old. And for the record she had on bike shorts under her dress.

Steak, roasted vegetable Kabobs, potato salad and a Kohlrabi slaw.

Carrot cake for dessert.
Our local bakery Flour Cafe came thru for the food win, the cake, steaks and potato salad were from them as part of their weekly Sunday dinner special.

Monday Ally and I finished the puzzle we had been working on. It was a doozy and Ally was super focused to get it done before practice.

We did it. But no practice for Ally. She just wasn’t  feeling well enough. So we had a nice family time together.

Tuesday morning Becky found this as the situation. Cloey and Daisy in bed with Ally.

Ally was so happy.

I braved the grocery store. First time in 3 months. There is a certain kind of bread Ally likes that I have been unable to get delivered. We are out of it in our freezer so I stopped at the store and got that and some birthday flowers for Becky.

Becky took Ally and her friend Ellie boating.

The girls paddle boarded and Becky was in a kayak.

It was a really hot day, 90 degrees. But they had fun.

You’d think on Becky’s birthday she would open packages but not yet. Ally and I got our quarterly Fab Fit Fun box. She loves getting the makeup and beauty products. I prefer the style and housewares.

Then it was bath time for Cloey.

Finally it was time to open her gifts.  Our quarantine friends Kim and Mark brought Becky some good beer.

For dinner we got burgers, fries and a milkshake for Ally, and a large half and half for Becky. We decided since there was so much carrot cake left from the birthday dinner at Beth’s we would light a candle in her cheeseburger and sing Happy Birthday. It was fun.

After dinner was gift time. A tiny ironing set from her parents. Ally thought it was so cute. My understanding is that it’s a special thing for quilting.

Then while opening her card from Uncle Phil and Aunt Suzie they called her!!!

Cards from me and Ally.

Our beautiful daughter.

After dinner we worked on our journals. Daisy gets pushy when Ally sits in that chair.  It is a special kids chair. Ally got it many years ago. It has had a red cover, a pink cover and then when we moved here I bought a gray cover for it and told Ally if she wanted us to continue to keep it the chair needed to be out not in our basement. It had been in our old house basement for about 7 years and we would ask if we could donate it and Ally always said NO. She says it’s special to her.

Flashback photo January 2008 when we got the chair:

Then we played a set of group games on our Apple TV:

Note that even though it was Becky’s birthday Ally won.

Those games were a hit and we played them again on Wednesday night.

Ally wasn’t feeling well enough for practice but we met up with teammates after practice for a birthday celebration in the parking lot. Mari, Mia & Dahlia all have June birthdays.

When we got home it was time to start our big home improvement project for the week. Installing a new closet system in Ally’s closet. We had a hodge podge of hanging organizers and a dresser in there and we decided it was time for something more efficient. Ally really likes to be organized, and likes to organize. So while Becky worked on getting the old shelf and pole out of Ally’s closet Ally organized our jewelry boxes.

I emptied Ally’s closet.

Becky took down the pole and shelf and cleat.

Then Thursday Daniela came over. We set the card table up on our back porch and the girls had lunch, did some crafts and played board games. Such a nice time. Daniela’s sisters and mom love Cloey so they took Cloey out for a long walk and play session while Daniela was at our house.

And we got a new fence:

Ally helped spackle the walls.

Friday morning Ally helped with a final coat of spackle. She was wearing Becky’s shoes and it cracked me up.

Later on Friday Ally and Becky painted the closet. Sorry no pictures of the painting process.

We also watched some movies this week; The Rampage, San Andreas and The Mummy.

A couple rare pictures of Ally in glasses.

After the movies we started installing the closet system. Ally was a great sport and a huge help.

Then Saturday morning Becky finished it, with me supervising. That is my foot while I’m sitting on the couch.

Ally was super excited to see it.

And so very happy.

She then spent the next 4 hours putting the closet back in order.

I posted some signs in our yard and a BLM one in our front window.

The finished closet!

Some Cloey and Ally pictures after dinner. I absolutely love the one above of her laughing.

It was a week with lots of highs and lows. Blogging makes me realize there were lots more highs than lows.
