Labor Day Weekend

So far this Labor Day weekend Ally has been doing lots of art and playing with friends.

Saturday morning she set up her animals at her art table and then proceeded to use them as subjects for a painting.
Ally and I went to a play date at Roxie's house and then grocery shopping and errands for the BBQ today. Then we all worked hard to get things ready for today.

Today, Sunday we had 4 families from Ally's old preschool over; Andy, Erik, Stella and Liem and their parents and siblings.

Ally and Stella set up chairs in the shade - it cracked me up.

It was a beautiful day and we ate al fresco in the driveway! The kids picnic style on a rug and the grown ups at a long conference style table I borrowed from my boss.

At dessert time the kids had toys and dessert - but everyone played nicely - there were no tears or fights or arguments the entire 3 hours everyone was here.

Ally and Stella of course did some coloring.
Stella was going to Storyland right after the BBQ so she and Ally were comparing Storyland to Wonderland, where Ally went earlier this summer with Grandma Debbie and Poppy and mama. Ally drew a picture of one of the Wonderland rides to show Stella what it was like.

Then she worked on a beautiful picture.

These 3 pictures are to document Ally's fabric choice. Our favorite fabric store was having a sidewalk sale - fat quarters at a big discount. We let Ally pick out most of them and she kept choosing really beautiful vintage floral patterns. Becky kept cringing (her taste is much more modern). It was just remarkable to see what Ally chose.

After a movie break (Land Before Time 11) we went for a family bike ride. Ally had requested that on Saturday but we ran out of time getting the house and yard ready for company today. But we did get it in. Becky and I were brave and we all rode on the street! Not much traffic at all this weekend. It was really fun.

Then it was back home for dinner, coloring and game playing for Ally, sewing for Becky and blogging for me.

Best of all we still have tomorrow together as a family and I have 2 extra days off to spend with Ally before school starts!
