Beth told us about a fun run for kids that was taking place on Saturday evening. The race was at 5:00PM – which by the way is our usual dinner time and lately Ally has been asleep most nights by 7:00PM and as was clear in the last post we had a very fun-activity-filled day. But at 430 off the race we were.
Ally said a couple of times how she was nervous, but excited too.
Beth and Becky were volunteers on the course to show the kids where to run – it was a 1/2 mile run. As we waited for the race to start Ally and I talked and I told her she did not need to run the whole thing, if she was tired she could walk. She confidently replied “I think I’ll run the whole way”.
Waiting for the race to start, then following the racer to the start line. Gosh she looked so small.
Listening to instructions from the race organizer. No Ally was not the smallest kid running.
And they are off! The picture on the left I took as they started. Then Becky took the one on the right about 2/3 of the way thru the race when Ally passed her position. Ally had quite a cheering section since Beth, Andrew and Becky were positioned along the race. They all reported that she had a huge smile on her face the entire time – just like the one in the picture above.
Nearing the finish line. Ally did not come in last, but as you can see she ran by herself for the last bit.
The finish! And my tired happy girl as soon as she finished. I wish I had captured her look of success and pride. She was so happy and excited that she did it.
With her medal.
Once every child had crossed the finish line Ally ran to show mama her medal and got a huge hug and congratulations.
My family.
Becky and I are so proud of Ally. A half mile is a long way to run – and she ran the whole thing without stopping and was happy and excited and joyful. She told us afterwards that she got really tired but she kept running.
As is her usual personality – once she decides to do something she does it (and usually does it well).
